DUAL FIT SYSTEM

Two Fits. One Shoe.

One lacing system, two distinct fits: COMFORT WALK mode for the approach and the trail, PRECISE CLIMBING mode for rock and via ferrata — each enhancing the specific functionality of the shoe.

AKU Dual Fit System lacing

What is the Dual Fit System?

DFS is AKU's convertible lacing system. Switch between COMFORT WALK mode for the approach phase and PRECISE CLIMBING mode when climbing on rock or via ferrata — changing how the shoe wraps your foot without changing your shoes.

Two Modes

How DFS Works

DFS Comfort Walk lacing mode
1

Comfort Walk

A traditional lacing with only 4 steps effectively locks the instep while leaving maximum volume in the forefoot — the roomy, natural fit you want for walking.

DFS Precise Climbing lacing mode
2

Precise Climbing

The fast-lock drawcord tightens three pairs of independent, free-sliding webbing to wrap around the forefoot and reduce volume at the toe — climbing-shoe precision when the terrain gets technical.

On the Trail

Why Hikers Want DFS

Hiking and climbing ask opposite things of a shoe. On the trail, you want lacing tension concentrated at the midfoot and instep — holding your heel and arch securely — while the forefoot stays roomy so your toes can splay naturally, your foot can swell over a long day, and nothing jams forward on descents.

On rock, it's the opposite: you want the forefoot wrapped tight so the shoe becomes an extension of your toes for edging and smearing.

Most shoes force you to pick one. DFS gives you both — hike in Comfort Walk mode with a locked midfoot and relaxed forefoot, then cinch the drawcord into Precise Climbing mode when the approach turns vertical.
