I have gone through a few AKU low-rise shoes (LA VAL II LOW GTX) and needed something not too heavy with ankle support. The Trekker Pro GTX does exactly that. After over a month of regular use, they has proved to be excellent all terrain (mud, water, high grass, rocks, etc) boots. They're stiff enough so that I fell well supported, yet confortable right out of the box (I did not need to break them like full leather boots). What impressed me the most, is how grippy and water resistant they are. The fact that they're not full leather heavy boots, and have many panels and stitching, I was not expecting the waterproofing to be that capable. Note that in order to feel confortable in them when wearing mid-thick hiking socks, I did need to pick 1/2 size up from what fits me when using Low-Rise Hiking Shoes from AKU.
These boots are supportive and stable, provide excellent grip on all terrains and very little break-in time was required. The boots are breathable enough to use on warm days without your feet overheating and work well navigating moderate terrain carrying a light load (~25 lbs) for several hours at a time. I would highly recommend these boots for anything from a light day hike to a several day excursion.
These fit great out of the box. They are super lightweight and for those looking for ankle support I would recommend. I feel very stable in these and they have just the right amount of give. They fit true to size. I have wide feet 4.5” wide and although they aren’t rated as wide they fit well even with thicker socks.
Only negative is that the rand placement is slightly off from one boot to the other. Doesn’t appear to affect performance, but worth a mention if you care about that sort of thing.
I’ve got about 40 km on them so far and looking forward to a summer of backcountry.
