These fit great out of the box. They are super lightweight and for those looking for ankle support I would recommend. I feel very stable in these and they have just the right amount of give. They fit true to size. I have wide feet 4.5” wide and although they aren’t rated as wide they fit well even with thicker socks.
Only negative is that the rand placement is slightly off from one boot to the other. Doesn’t appear to affect performance, but worth a mention if you care about that sort of thing.
I’ve got about 40 km on them so far and looking forward to a summer of backcountry.
I purchased these as slightly overkill boots for wet and rocky day hikes in PNW. They are just flexible enough to allow for a normal gait, and more than supportive enough to carry a backpacking load. The sole is good in clay mud and wet rocks, with minimal slippage. Though not tried, I'm sure these would work well in the snow. I have low volume feet, and wide at the toe box. Most boots are too narrow in the toe box and too loose in the ancle. Aku boots fit me very well, but I have to use a thicker polyurethane insole to lower the volume a bit. These boots are the most comfortable boots I have ever had that still offer a lot of support. The flex is just right, as is the cushioning, with a nice return spring. There is minimal padding, especially around the ancle, and the materials are on the stiff side initially, so some breaking in is recomended. The only downside for me, is that because the ancle cuff is quite snug, the breathability is not good. I would love to use these in the summer too, but they are warm and need to be removed every 2 hours to vent. Luckily I have the Tributte 2 which is a fantastic Summer boot!
