I have own 2 pairs of La Val II and tried the Alterra lite GTX all in size 13. When the Alterra felt way bigger , the La Val were awesome. I replace my shoes for the Bellamont III and wow what an awesome shoe. They look great and are surper lite. I really enjoy the Vibram sole (which lack on the La Val II in my opinion) But I totally recommend the Bellamont III
I bought them for a month long trip in Japan that took me from city streets to mountain hikes. They have a nice simple look which was appreciated as I don't like shoes looking too flashy. They were very comfortable the whole trip and required almost no break in. The Sole was incredibly grippy on wet stone and tile (on some wet surfaces they were actually sticky), and the tread is great for hikes. I was a little unsure about the organic fiber lining but it seemed to wick sweat well and my feet stayed dry the whole trip, especially with the goretex lining. The leather held up nicely as well and the shoes are still in great shape.
A few points things I noticed on the negative side. The tread seemed to wear out a bit faster than other shoes, but that may be a trade off to achieve more grip. By the end if the month it was quite noticeable to me, looking at the back of the shoes the sole sloped a few mm up at the outside of the heel.
I also found that my small toes had a tendency to get pinched in a put causing some blistering, this is likely just because of the shape of my foot, and also might have been remedied by loosening the lacing at the toe a bit more, but I don't remember having that problem with my aku pilgrims. The other small nitpick I have is that the heel is prone to getting crushed in when sliding your foot in. I found myself using the hotels shoe trees more than I normally do.
Personally those issues I don't think are that big but I noticed them so included them in this review. But despite them I was overall very happy with the shoes.
