This is my second pair of boots made by Aku. With cleaning and good care, my last pair are now 15 years old.
The last pair will be my day hikers, and this will be my pair for extended backpacking or mountain climbing. The fit is good and I am excited to get them broken in properly.
I’ve already reviewed the KS Schwer 14 boots in the past, so I’ll just touch on the differences with the new KS Schwer 19. The entire boot is now a nice medium brown. The lace lock is completely different, it’s a clamp style lock which seems more secure than the old pinch lace hook. Only downside is the base of the lace lock is plastic, which gives me a little concern in cold weather. Same great fit as the original, and same perfect moderate sole flex. Not as stiff as a Lowa Tibet, but pretty similar to a Hanwag Alaska. Weight is 1990 grams for a size 9 US, which is a little heavy, but not bad for an insulated mountain boot. Can’t wait to use them this fall!
These boots are designed for rugged conditions. They are stiff and strong but bend and flex in all the right places. The fit and comfort level is near perfection. The added foam padding around ankle and Achilles tendon is great. Very comfortable bomb proof boot. Highly recommended.
